What Will Students Do & Learn?
Key Inquiry Focus for Stages 1–3 Geography:
Topic of study – Marine EcoSystems
- Explore:
Cabbage Tree Bay’s kelp forest ecosystems, seagrass meadows, rocky shores, and local wildlife habitats. - Identify:
Living (biotic) and non-living (abiotic) elements of marine ecosystems. - Understand:
Connections between people, places, and ecosystems—why aquatic reserves matter. - Recognise:
Threats to marine places and actions for sustainability, including personal “minimal impact” codes of conduct that help protect delicate ecosystems. - Communicate:
Use fieldwork vocabulary: ecosystem, habitat, biodiversity, conservation, human impact, threatened species, stewardship.
How the primary incursion works
- Step 1: Our team visits your school—no buses needed! We bring PowerPoint, mascot, props, and engaging learning resources for every classroom.
- Step 2: Each 30-minute incursion includes storytelling from Kelpy, marine science visuals, Q&A, and a pledge to become an Ocean Champion for our local ecosystems.
- Step 3: Multiple sessions run across the day, so every class receives their own tailored, interactive experience.
